About the Role

Specialty MGA Africa and Middle East is seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Senior Underwriter to join its growing team in Casablanca.

The successful candidate will be responsible for building and managing a profitable underwriting portfolio across specialty non-life reinsurance lines, including property, engineering, and facultative/treaty business. This is a strategic leadership role offering regional exposure to key markets including Dubai, Cairo, Tunis, Johannesburg, and Nairobi.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and management of a technically sound and profitable underwriting portfolio
  • Underwrite complex risks in accordance with MGA guidelines, ensuring compliance and profitability
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with brokers, cedants, reinsurers, and key market stakeholders
  • Contribute to the MGA’s strategic direction, including product innovation, capacity planning, and regional expansion
  • Represent the MGA at industry events and conferences to enhance visibility and brand presence
  • Support the development and onboarding of junior underwriters, fostering a culture of technical excellence
  • Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks across assigned territories

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of 15 years’ reinsurance underwriting experience, with deep technical expertise in non-life and specialty lines. A strong understanding of the African and Middle Eastern insurance markets, along with senior stakeholder engagement skills, is essential.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in reinsurance underwriting (non-life and specialty lines)
  • Demonstrated track record in building and growing profitable portfolios
  • Established network of brokers, cedants, and reinsurers in the region
  • Experience operating in African and Middle Eastern markets

Technical Competence

  • Advanced skills in underwriting, pricing, and risk assessment
  • Proficiency in facultative and treaty structures
  • Sound understanding of regional market and regulatory environments

Interpersonal & Leadership

  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building abilities
  • Senior stakeholder engagement and external representation experience
  • Proven leadership, mentoring, and team development capabilities

Language Proficiency

  • Fluency in English (required)
  • Proficiency in French and/or Arabic (strongly preferred)
  • Additional languages such as Swahili or Hindi considered an asset

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Insurance, Risk, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Professional certifications such as ACII, CPCU, or equivalent are highly desirable
